Sunday Leader has been traditional ally of UNP and its West biased policies. It has equally notorious history of publishing controversial stories related to the government and especially against president Rajapaksa and his brothers.
When the fight against terrorism was launched, The Sunday Leader was the master mind behind the false allegation of “Mig-7 deal” of the air force.UNP and its media ally wanted to defame the government and block support of the people to the fight against terrorism at the very inception.
The Sunday Leader repeatedly published controversial news against Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Therefore, Defence Secretary opted to file a case against the Sunday Leader. In the courts, The Sunday Leader was unable prove their false allegations. Therefore they agreed to publish a formal apology in the news paper. In addition they agreed not to publish any more defamatory articles against Defence Secretary as part of settlement of the case without paying demanded compensation. Thereafter, The Sunday Leader took all the precautions to not to publish any defamatory allegations specifically against Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The burst of patriotic bubble of Sarath Fonseka
It all burst again when they published a headline news article last week quoting presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka that “Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaka personally ordered Brigadier (now Major General) Shamindra Silva to shoot Prabakaran and his close associates in cold blood.”
The news was spread in international media in a flash. The government and security forces were in embarrassing situation in the light of West’s allegation of War Crime charges. There was an agitation in the nation that Sarath Fonseka has betrayed the government and security forces. The War hero suddenly exposed himself to be a traitor. The whole presidential election campaign of Fonseka was in complete disarray.
When the opposition for Fonseka’s statement was insurmountable, he called a press conference and denied the news report and blamed the Sunday Leader for misquoting him. However by the time Sarath Fonseka has already done the damage to his only selling point in the campaign.
Maga hitiyoth tho nasi, gedara giyoth abu nasi
Now the Sunday Leader is in extremely awkward situation. They have already promised the courts that they will no longer publish defamatory news against Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. When Sarath Fonseka denies the alleged news report, the responsibility of the news fall into the hand of the Sunday Leader itself. That is why Sunday Leader editor Fedrica Janz was quick to make a statement to the media that the Sunday Leader has not misquoted General Fonseka at any stage. She went further saying that the General himself spoke to her and conveyed that the story was absolutely right.
Since the Sunday Leader defend their news item, the only way for Sarath Fonseka to clear his character is to take legal action against the news paper rectify the news story.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s fresh demand of defamatory charges
Adding to the complexity of the issue, the lawyers of Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa have sent a fresh letter demanding for one billion rupees to the Sunday Leader newspaper Chairman Lal Wickramatunga and Editor Fredrica Jansz as damages for publishing the alleged defamatory article.
Now the Sunday leader is in an awkward situation where if they try to clear Sarath Fonseka by accepting the publishing of false headline news item, they will be caught up back with demand of defamatory charges by Defense Sectary.
Will the Sunday Leader play the role of “Siri Sanga Bo”?
The stage has set now that either Sarath Fonseka or the Sunday Leader has to be the looser. We can wait and see if the Sunday Leader is willing to play the role of ‘Siri Sanga Bo’ to save Sarath Fonseka for the day.

There is a saying “If you can not convince them, then confuse them.” The West has been investing a lot and trying their best to convince Sri Lankan nation that adapting Federalism and Capitalism is the only solution to the poltico-economic issues in Sri Lanka.
Piripaharan was their military choice while CBK and Ranil were their political agents.
However they could not fulfill their mission due to ever awakened true patriotic forces of the country. The Maha Sangha came into lead the fight against federalism for which Ven. Soma thero played an active role. It ultimately resulted in both Ranil and CBK being defeated in the hand of real patriots’ choice, Mahinda Rajapaksa.
CBK – the paraded queen from England
CBK had been living in London for more than 5 years with no political involvement in Sri Lanka. At that time she had not any experience in governing even at Pradesiyasaba (local government) level.
But suddenly in 1994, she was parade into Sri Lankan politics by couple of people (Mangala and SB were prominent among them) calling her modern “Vihara Maha Devi”. She was presented to the nation attired with traditional ossary and pebble necklaces. The so called INGO funded “Vikalpa” media was the trumpeters of CBK saga.
In less than one year, after brief period of rule as a chief minister of Western Province, CBK was hurriedly appointed as the presidential candidate for the main opposition.
Good percentage of people who voted for her in the presidential election had not even seen her physically and no need to mention about knowledge or awareness of her political character or vision. At that time it was popularly named as “CBK surge” and people of this country was in a trance under so called ‘CBK surge’.
But it took only a couple of months for the people of this country to identify what this so called ‘CBK surge’ is all about, and more importantly who were really behind the ‘CBK surge’.
In her very first budget, CBK (who also took the ministry of finance) presented the list of government institutions that is going to be privatized under her government. The list included couple dozens of institutions including the national career Airlanka and gas corporation (later sold out to Shell Company). The ‘federal constitution’ was later unveiled after series of brain washing campaigns like “Sudu Neluma” and “Thavalama” funded by INGOs of the West.
It was an era of confusion, frustration and misery for true patriotic people of Sri Lanka. They came out strongly and lessons learned. The Maha Sangha and the true patriotic leaders rallied round Mahinda Rajapaksa who had proven track records and necessary leadership qualities. We all are now witnessing the result of that correct decision.
History repeats only if lessons are not learned
The Queen CBK was brought into SL politics and played her part to serve imperialism, separatism and corrupted businessmen, and back now she is in her palace in London.
The Western masters have now chosen another ‘Unknown political character’ to confuse the people and grab the power because they can no longer convince their natural choice Ranil Wickramasinghe. The anti-national elements are now parading their new hand picked choice promising “New Sri Lanka”. However in reality the “New Sri Lanka” that on their mind is the “Old Sri Lanka” that paved way for them to exploit under political instability.
They feel that it is easier to market the unknown General (or rather fool the people) in Politics because his political character is yet a mystery to the nation. People say history repeats. But it is our duty to learn from the history and work so that the miserable and unfortunate mistakes in the history will never repeat in the future.

Suspected LTTE female suicide bomber identified

The suspected Tiger female suicide bomber who carried out the attack on the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka has been identified as Anoja Kugenthiratasah.
Colombo, 27 April, (Asiantribune.com): The female suicide bomber who carried out the bomb attack on the Sri Lanka Army Commander on Tuesday 25 April, has been identified as a Tamil women from Vavuniya.
Police recovered the head of the of the women suicide bomber which was found hanging on a nearby tree, after it must have been severed from the rest of her body on the impact of the self-activated explosion.
It is now revealed that the suspected Tiger female suicide bomber who carried out the attack on the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka has been identified as Anoja Kugenthiratasah say security sources. She was a resident of Puvarasakulam at Vavuniya. She was 21 years old.
Sri Lanka Army has now released her scanned portrait image.
